Network Registration:
To connect to the wired and wireless networks of the Spilker building, your device needs to be registered in the network database
- To initiate the network database registration process, please fill out the following form (quicker if logged into your Stanford provided Google Account on the browser): Network Registration Form
- It is preferred to register devices through Garrett as opposed to the self registration, particularly for wired devices in the building, as it will help keep the database consistent, allow for the best configuration for your situation, and enable vastly quicker support should any issues arise in the future. It is helpful if you can rename your device to the same name you will register the device with.
- Here are the university’s general minimum security standards: Security Standards
- Garrett can help guide you through the compliance process and provide the relevant applications to run – including enrollment, appropriate client to install, encryption (and save the recovery key), as well as a checker to verify compliance
- Resources like Google Drive will also require Cardinal Key: Cardinal Key. There are options Garrett can provide for shared machines as well
- Here is the list of operating systems that are no longer eligible for network access: Operating System Sunset Schedule
- Windows Pro/Enterprise/Education versions are the only Windows versions that can be used. Here is a helpful link if your machine is using an unsupported version of Windows (such as HOME version): Update Your Windows to Education Version
- Do not use a Microsoft account instead of a local account with a fresh build
If you have any questions, please email Garrett Funk at glfunk@stanford.edu
- The following wireless networks are accessible:
- Stanford: The university-wide wireless network (for Stanford affiliates and sponsored guests).
- Stanford Visitor: Self-registered visitor wireless network (Internet access only). Slower speeds.
- Eduroam: Inter-institutional secure (encrypted) wireless service for higher education institution affiliates. Preferred for personal devices.

- Solutions for Shared Machines
- Some machines that are shared can pose concerns for people logging in with their personal Google Drives and are required to use their personal Cardinal Key. There is a way to assign a device based certificate instead, which removes the requirement to have a Cardinal Key but it will still challenge the user with username / password along with MFA. Users can then log onto the machine to access their personal drives, and the authentication won't be applicable to the next user who logs in. Please see Garrett to set this up.
